Tuesday 28th September 2021 heralded the premiere of the much anticipated No Time to Die. The 25th instalment of the James Bond series of films premiered at the Royal Albert Hall to guests which included the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It’s already received rave reviews as the fifth and final outing of sixth 007, Daniel Craig. No Time to Die also welcomes back Léa Seydoux as Dr Madeleine Swann, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes as M.
To celebrate the release, we’ve decided to take a look back at some of the most stylish Bond girls and the stunning jewellery they wore on screen.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Sylvia Trench, also known as the first ever Bond girl. Played by Eunice Gayson, Trench starred opposite Sean Connery in Dr No (1962), with a follow up performance in From Russia With Love (1963), one of the few Bond girls to get a second outing.
If you ever wondered where the line, ‘Bond. James Bond’ came from, you have Sylvia to thank. At Le Cercle casino, she introduces herself to Bond as ‘Trench. Sylvia Trench’ to which Bond playfully responds by mimicking her. Hence the famous line was born.
Sylvia will always be remembered for her elegant, off the shoulder red gown, paired with striking ornate silver brooch and earrings.
Played by Teri Hatcher, Paris Carver was the wife of wealthy media tycoon and criminal Elliot Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies. A former lover of 007, she met her end for helping Bond. Smart and sophisticated, Paris was no stranger to Bond girl glamour. In her most famous ensemble, she wore a stunning 25 carat scalloped diamond necklace, with a lovely 10 carat blue sapphire ring.
While diamonds are often seen adorning the necks, ears and wrists of our favourite Bond girls, this time it’s rubies that take centre stage. Oil heiress Elektra King, played by Sophie Marceau, seduces Bond before revealing her true colours as a criminal mastermind, as part of a plot to blow up her family’s oil pipeline. Cunning, charming and immaculately dressed, Elektra stuns in red, with her most memorable look a form fitting embroidered gown, paired with gold and ruby statement drop earrings.
There’s no shortage of gems in Die Another Day, the 20th Bond film released. Remember the scene with Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry lying on a bed covered in diamonds? But when it comes to memorable jewellery, it’s icy double agent Miranda Frost, played by Rosamund Pike, who stands out from the crowd in her statement diamond drop earrings.
And finally, we can’t end without mentioning the breathtaking gems worn by Ana De Armas’ Paloma in the latest movie instalment. Paloma is a rookie CIA agent who makes an impact on Bond. In one scene she wears a breathtaking necklace of 43 carat pear shaped diamonds, paired with a matching 82 carat bracelet of pear shaped and round diamonds. Plus a set of 14 carat diamond earrings. Catch them on display in No Time to Die, in cinemas now.
